To protect end users, customers, and the integrity of the messaging ecosystem, ChatOdyssey actively monitors SMS and voice traffic in accordance with carrier requirements and industry standards such as 10DLC. Because SMS is a highly regulated communication channel, certain types of activity or message content may trigger an automated compliance or fraud flag, even when violations are unintentional. When this occurs, messaging or calling capabilities associated with the affected number or account may be temporarily limited or suspended.

Why an Account May Be Flagged

Accounts are commonly flagged when activity resembles prohibited or restricted use cases under carrier rules. These include, but are not limited to, high-risk financial services (such as cryptocurrency promotions or third-party loans), third-party lead generation or cold outreach, debt collection or debt forgiveness services, “get rich quick” or multi-level marketing schemes, illegal or federally restricted substances, gambling promotions, and SHAFT-related content (Sexually explicit material, Hate speech, Alcohol, Firearms or violence, and Tobacco or illicit drugs). Some of these categories are strictly forbidden on SMS networks, while others require additional approvals, age-gating, or specific registration that may not be in place.

What Happens When a Flag Is Triggered

When potentially non-compliant activity is detected, ChatOdyssey may be required by carriers to restrict or suspend messaging or voice traffic while the activity is reviewed. These actions are often mandatory and originate from carrier-level enforcement rather than discretionary decisions. Flags may be triggered by message content, links or landing pages, traffic patterns, keyword matches associated with fraud or scams, or attempts to send messages on behalf of third parties that did not obtain the original user consent.

How Reviews Are Conducted

If an account is flagged, ChatOdyssey support reviews each case individually. To initiate a review, customers must contact support and provide clear and accurate details about:

  • The type of content they were attempting to send (transactional, informational, marketing, alerts, etc.).

  • The intended use case for the phone number (for example, account notifications, customer support follow-ups, or appointment reminders).

  • The expected message volume, including frequency, scale, and whether traffic is ongoing or campaign-based.

This information is required for ChatOdyssey to assess compliance and, where appropriate, work with upstream carriers to determine next steps. Without sufficient detail, a review may be delayed or denied.

Possible Outcomes

Following review, ChatOdyssey may confirm that the use case is compliant and request carrier re-enablement, recommend changes to message content or traffic patterns, require additional registration or safeguards (such as opt-in clarification or age-gating), or determine that the use case is not permitted on SMS or voice networks. Restoration of service is not guaranteed and depends entirely on carrier approval and compliance confirmation.

Staying Compliant Going Forward

To reduce the risk of future flags, customers should ensure that all messaging is sent only to users who have explicitly opted in, is directly related to their own business, avoids prohibited content categories, and follows all carrier disclosure and opt-out requirements. Regulated or high-risk industries should confirm eligibility before launching traffic, as SMS may not be an appropriate channel for certain use cases.

Important Disclaimer

Carrier compliance rules are enforced at the network level and apply uniformly across providers. Even legitimate businesses can experience service interruptions if activity does not strictly align with these requirements. These measures exist to protect consumers from fraud, spam, and abuse and to preserve long-term deliverability for compliant customers.

If you believe your account was flagged in error or are ready to provide the required information for review, please contact ChatOdyssey support to begin the case-by-case assessment process.
